Overnight Care — Reassurance and Safety Through the Night.
For many families, the nights are the hardest part. The concern that a loved one might fall, become confused, need medication, or simply become frightened in the early hours is very real. Overnight care places a professional carer in the home from evening through to morning — giving families genuine peace of mind through the hours when it matters most.

Understanding the Need
Why the Night-Time Hours Require Different Care
Night-time presents a distinct set of risks and challenges for people who need care at home. Falls in the night — often on the way to the bathroom — are one of the most common causes of serious injury in older adults. Confusion and disorientation, particularly for those living with dementia, can be significantly worse in the dark and in the early hours. Medication needs do not pause for the night. And for many individuals, the psychological experience of being alone in the dark is genuinely frightening.
Daytime care addresses many needs. But it leaves the night uncovered — and for the families of those who need overnight support, the worry that fills that gap is exhausting in its own right.
Overnight care from Beryl Healthcare puts a trained professional in the home throughout the night. Whether your loved one needs active support through the hours, or simply requires someone to be there and available should they wake, we have an arrangement that fits.
Did You Know?
Falls are most likely to occur between midnight and 6am. A carer present overnight can significantly reduce this risk by assisting with night-time movement and toileting safely.
Which Type Do You Need?
Sleeping Night vs Waking Night — What Is the Difference?
Overnight care is not a single arrangement. We offer two distinct options depending on the level of night-time support required.
Sleeping Night
The carer stays in the home overnight in a designated room and rests. They are available to assist if the individual wakes, needs toileting, requires reassurance, or an emergency arises — but they are not expected to be active throughout the night. A sleeping night is the right option when the individual is mostly settled at night but needs someone present just in case.
Waking Night
The carer remains awake and active throughout the night. They provide continuous monitoring, regular checks, and active assistance whenever required. A waking night is appropriate for individuals who need frequent support through the night — including those with advanced dementia, significant continence needs, a high fall risk, or complex medical requirements.

Is This Right for Your Family?
Who Overnight Care Is For
Overnight care is the right option for individuals who are at risk of falls, disorientation, or other difficulties during the night — and whose family cannot safely provide that cover themselves. This includes older adults living alone whose families worry about them through the night, people with dementia who experience heightened confusion or distress in the dark, individuals with high continence needs or frequent night waking, and those managing conditions such as Parkinson's disease that can cause night-time symptoms.
It is also a strong option for families who are currently providing night cover themselves but are becoming exhausted — and who need professional, reliable relief before their own health suffers.
Overnight care can be booked for individual nights, several nights per week, or seven nights per week as a full arrangement. It can also be combined with daytime visiting care to create a complete care package.
